IT'S A FREAK SHOW, ACE!

My main research focus since late 2018 has been for my book, titled, It’s a Freak Show, Ace!: Punk Flyer Art from the Legendary Jockey Club 1982–1988. This 304-page compendium on punk flyer art is being published by Aurore Press in Cincinnati, Ohio. This project arose out of a presentation I gave at the Popular Culture Association/American Cultural Association 2014 National Conference.
For this project I have collected over 800 flyers for the Jockey Club to date — promoting approximately 370 bands. I was also fortunate enough to get the original paste-ups from some of the makers, allowing insight into the process of flyer making that is rare for ephemera such as this. Other items collected are set lists, tickets, calendars, and ads for local zines.
